The colourful tape you see on the field doesn't magically boost performance. Its real contribution is supporting joint safety during movement.
The kinesio taping seen often on professional athletes can give a spectator the impression it's a performance enhancer. Its real contribution is different from that.
By supporting joint position sense, the tape contributes to movement control especially when fatigue sets in; it doesn't directly increase muscle strength or speed.
It plays a supportive role in sports with repeated shoulder movement — volleyball, swimming — or where knee-ankle stability is critical, such as basketball and football.
During return to sport after an injury, the tape can give the athlete a sense of movement safety, offering psychological support for graded loading.
The tape doesn't replace a well-built strength and conditioning programme — it's a small but real tool that complements it.
Fzt. Bilal Kara uses taping in athletes as part of the strength and rehabilitation programme in Bursa Nilüfer. You can book an appointment.
