Neurological Rehabilitation

The nervous system can form new connections after damage; this is called neuroplasticity. Neurological rehabilitation rests on exactly that: well-chosen, sufficiently repeated and meaningful tasks allow part of a lost function to be regained. Fzt. Bilal Kara defines the goal in terms of independence in daily life.

Seated strength and balance work in the rehabilitation room

When is it needed?

  • Balance disruption persisting after a concussion
  • Blurred vision on fast head movements (loss of eye-head coordination)
  • Arm weakness following a shoulder dislocation
  • Concentration difficulty and fatigue after trauma
  • Vague loss of confidence about returning to the field

What we do

  • A graded protocol using post-concussion cognitive and physical load tests
  • Balance and eye-head coordination (vestibulo-ocular) exercises
  • Confirming nerve-related weakness through neurological examination
  • Return-to-play criteria based on reaction-time and attention tests
  • Gradual load increase that doesn't trigger symptoms

Neurological Rehab in Bursa Nilüfer

Fzt. Bilal Kara provides one-to-one care for neurological rehab at the clinic in Bursa Nilüfer — in Fethiye Mahallesi, on Kelebek Sokak, at a central point of Nilüfer, opposite the Fethiye covered market.

It is a short trip by car or public transport from İhsaniye, Odunluk, Balat, Özlüce, Ataevler, 23 Nisan and the surrounding areas. Every session is one-to-one, assessment-based and tailored to you.

If balance hasn't returned to normal after a concussion

Most complaints after a sports head injury (concussion) ease within a few weeks; in some cases, however, the disruption to balance and eye-head coordination lasts longer and raises the risk of re-injury if return to the field comes too early.

Fzt. Bilal Kara ties the return decision to measurable balance tests rather than a symptom checklist. Nerve-related weakness that can follow a trauma such as a shoulder dislocation is distinguished with the same rigour, through neurological examination.

What decides return to the field?

"I feel fine" isn't a sufficient criterion for returning to the field after a concussion. Fzt. Bilal Kara ties the return decision to measurable balance, reaction-time and symptom-trigger tests; each step of the graded load protocol is passed through these tests.

Why is eye-head coordination tested?

In some athletes, vision blurs during fast head movements after a concussion; this shows the balance system's synchronisation with the eyes hasn't fully recovered yet. Returning to speed-based training before this resolves raises the risk of re-injury.

Is weakness after a shoulder dislocation neurological?

During a shoulder dislocation the nerve running nearby can also be stretched; in that case the strength loss may come not only from muscle weakness but from nerve damage as well. The distinction is made through neurological examination and directly shapes the programme.

When to see a physician without delay?

Clouded consciousness, repeated vomiting, worsening headache or a change in consciousness call for emergency assessment; with these findings, a physician is seen without waiting for sideline testing.

Frequently asked questions

When can I return to training after a concussion?

Not before symptoms fully resolve and each step of the graded load protocol is tested and passed; the timeframe varies from person to person.

What do balance tests measure?

Single-leg stance, eyes-closed balance and dynamic balance tests show whether the concussion's effect on the balance system has resolved.

How is the risk of a second concussion reduced?

Not returning to the field early, before balance and reaction tests are fully back to normal, is the most effective precaution against a second — and usually more serious — concussion.
