Showing up for club training is easy because there's a schedule and team pressure. Sticking with the extra programme outside the club is down to personal discipline alone.
The extra strength or rehab exercises given to athletes are often neglected because they fall outside club training — yet a large part of injury prevention and performance comes from that extra work.
When the training calendar is already packed, adding an extra set of exercises loses priority under fatigue and time pressure.
Short, targeted exercises added into the warm-up or cool-down, rather than a separate session, settle naturally into the club routine.
Having the coach aware of the exercises the physiotherapist recommends makes it easier for them to become part of the club programme.
Framing it as "I'm doing this to come back onto the field stronger" rather than "I'm doing this so I don't get injured" is a source of motivation that improves an athlete's adherence.
