A scoliosis diagnosis doesn't mean a young athlete has to give up their sport. The right sport choice and follow-up can run side by side.
When scoliosis is noticed in a growing teenage athlete, the question the family and the young athlete ask most often is "can I keep doing my sport?" In most cases the answer is yes.
Swimming and sports with symmetrical loading are generally considered suitable. In sports with one-sided, repetitive loading, closer monitoring is recommended.
For young athletes wearing a brace, when it can be removed during training is clarified together with the physician — that decision isn't the athlete's to make alone.
Exercises targeting trunk strength and postural awareness can be part of both general scoliosis follow-up and the athlete's own performance goals.
Regular angle monitoring until growth is complete is the physician's responsibility; physiotherapy provides exercise support that complements that follow-up.
